The Beauty of Conversation Unplugged: “Mom ~ I love you!!”

Today H and I  were heading into the big city. It was close to a two hour trip and we agreed to have a no technology drive. That meant no iPad, iPod or laptop in the car for H… and apparently no CBC radio for me. Instead – we talked. We talked of many wonderful things today and I won’t recount it all – but I must share this one small conversation:

“Mom… I love you”

“Aw… H are you telling me this to make me feel good?”

“Yes… and because it’s true. But Mom…”

“Mmmmhmmm??”

“Sometimes I say it because I don’t know what else to say.”

“Well, it’s a nice thing to say!”

“Ya, sometimes I start to say something and I say ‘mom’ and then I forget what I was going to say.”

“Oh – so it’s a kind of fail-safe…”

“Ya. Now you know my secret!”

“H??”

“Ya?”

“I love you!!!”

I have observed before that sometimes the pace chooses me. However, I can’t help but notice – that we often have some say in the pace of things. When we slow the pace – and take the time to connect… there is always ALWAYS a treasured moment to be found.

Thank you! He is charming. honest, and quite frankly… hilarious!

Later in the day he told me Zena Warrior Princess was beautiful – but then quickly added that she was not as beautiful as me. When I questioned this as possibly not the case – he told me it was a part of the son’s code to say these things to moms – and that there was an “organization”. Then, with perfect comedic timing he said – “OH crap – that is a secret – now they’ll probably kick me out!”

Can you say spit-take?? I almost sprayed my Starbucks on the windshield!

And too…on a slightly different topic – somehow I figured you to be a fellow CBC fan!! Yay!
