Today we came home from an overnight at a lovely nearby holiday destination. We stayed in a cottage – instead of the main hotel – so that Finnegan the Labradoodle could come with us. We soaked in the pools and ate entirely too much for dinner last night… all in celebration of my birthday.
When we arrived home around noon we had that lovely-to-be-home feeling combined with that I’ve-been-swimming-sleepy feeling. We were relaxed!! AWESOME!
We had nothing on our agenda – so when H suggested we have a Star Trek marathon, it suited Craig and I perfectly. We also all agreed that waffles would make the perfect brunch. (They pair particularly well with TOS episode #64!!)
H got right to work…
Apparently, there is more involved in a Star Trek marathon than simply watching the DVDs: action figures, phasers, and a number of costume changes were required.
Later in the afternoon, H was decorating the chocolate cake.
I was hailed from the kitchen: “Mom… how old are you???”
Me: “783…”
H: “No. Mom… really???”
Me: “Why don’t you guess…”
H: “… 27???”
I just let that one hang there!! What a great kid!!
It was a wonderful lazy afternoon – with cards and flowers… followed by a lovely dinner and more time spent together. (Make sure to note the pun on H’s card – he gets that from me!! Awesome!)
If you look closely… you will see Finnegan the Labradoodle lolling in one of his favourite spots.
I am not done trying to change the world… or at least my little part of it... but I am certainly grateful for my wonderful family! This year is off to a spectacular start!!

Happy, happy birthday dear friend! And I was so pleased to see that you had 16 candles on your cake (from what I could count!) making you… well sixteen, clearly!! (((((Leah)))))

Happy Birthday, Leah! 🙂 That cake looks fabulous!
Though, perhaps next time, you should tell H what year you were born, and let him figure it out… to us kids, age isn’t something we don’t want to think about – the older we are, the better. 😉 Plus, next year, he’ll probably ask you if you are 28, and that will be interesting to run with…

And about my age…
Oh… he knows! I think he was just not generalizing or accessing this knowledge for the number of candles needed on the cake – and to clarify – there is no way they would have fit! LOL

Aww, well, my sister and I decorated our parents cakes in different ways – rather than putting a huge number of candles, we would put the candles in the shape of the numbers. So the cake would say something like “45”, and only use about 15-20 candles. Or sometimes, we’d put it in binary. Because that was just fun. All sorts of ways to get creative with this.

Binary… I love that… a combination of lighted and unlighted candles perhaps???

No, not lit/unlit – we always lit our candles. What we did, was the 1 was 3-4 candles in a straight line, and the zero was 4-6 candles in a 0. Always a challenge, we liked to post in my house…

Happy birthday. Red heads don’t age like other people. We can’t explain why to non-reds, but it’s true.
BTW, coolest food-Star Trek tie-in ever! Waffles as the Tholian Web…brilliant! Just brilliant.

Aw – thanks, Jim!
Now I’m wondering if it would work if I were to simply dye my hair red… Hmmmm?? Really though… I am happily earning my steaks of grey…
I’m so glad someone else can appreciate the waffles connection. I’ll take that as high praise indeed! I liked the term ‘pairing’ – like with a fine wine…
Live long and prosper!!
